The moon is in the waxing Half (Philodox) Moon phase (43% full).

Meeting up after Jeremiah's been out on his run, the ahroun doesn't have a problem with keeping to whatever pace that Maddie chooses getting to the park, hands coming out of their perpetually slouched tucked into his pockets in order to sign. He's improving, too, though it's equally slow and careful as his English, but all the better not to speak if he doesn't have to. Though he fumbles at one point, and turns to Maddie. "Do we have a sign for talen?" he asks her, aloud, frowning at the sound of his own voice and taking a deep breath to pull his rage back far under his skin.

Maddie moves slowly, at least by his standards, given both her shorter legs and the deformity of her feet, relying on her table leg/walking stick for balance. She has to give his question some thought, rubbing at her chin absently. "Maddie does think there is a real one, and she has only signed to humans. Perhaps they could use this?" She makes a combination of two signs. "The first one means spirit or ghost, and he should remember the second one from before." Object or thing. "She thinks that should work well enough, and if they ever need to distinguish between a talen and a fetish, then they can add the sign for temporary."

Jeremiah also remains within distance that, should need arise, he can help the elder Gnawer, but he knows better than to outright offer when it is not requested. But he doesn't seem to mind the slow pace at all. It gives him time to think, time to observe their surroundings. Yes, the signing comes in response. Good, and then he mimics the combination of the two signs carefully, a second time to memorise it. Think that offering talens to tribal elders who do not give him a task, might be enough to make them think about saying yes. Ky, and Jeremiah's face twists into a frown slightly, did not say no or yes. Said, thinking about it.

Maddie snorts at the mention of the Shadow Lord, more expressing her lack of surprise than anything else. "Maddie and Lefty will have to remind the Firebrand that he came to them for help with recovering his fetish, and they agreed. She had actually hoped the Bullfrog would wait on talking to him until close to last, since she expects he will be one of the more difficult to convince, and they would already have helped him."

Jeremiah purses his lips, the sign for sorry expressed. Ky came to the home-place, the ahroun explains slowly. It did not seem good to simply let him walk away so angry. They talked, then I asked. He said, if he says yes, task. But I don't know, yes or no. Ky has been a difficult child, to no blame on Ky. Then there is his own amount of surprise, and the question comes, Ky's-father's fetish?

"Maddie had wondered how much he knew of it," the Theurge replies, then switches over solely to sign as she continues. The one that calls opponents into view. Perhaps that should be his task for the child of Thunder—aiding in its recovery? He'd likely notice that her own skill with signing has been increasing as she gets back into using it more regularly, especially given that she's been teaching it. "The Bullfrog knows more of the fetish and the man who hid it than anyone else that could join them, after all."

My brother was… Jeremiah pauses, struggling to think of a sign, and then gestures vaguely forward, with emphasis. "Driven," he says, aloud, before continuing to sign. I think Thunder might find that fitting. I know some, but my brother was withdrawn while he made it. I have seen the fetish, I have used it once. He kept many secrets from many, and was many many years older than I.

Maddie taps the side of her head. "But the Bullfrog knows how his brother thinks." Switching back to sign, she adds: And if the fetish is still hidden, that could make the difference between success or failure. If it is not…then unless they admit defeat, they can expect a fight.

Jeremiah nods. That I know, he admits. Or at least, I will remember. Will. Brows furrow at the conclusion of that sign, and Jeremiah moves over to sit down on the ground near to one of the benches. It's troubling him, now, the entirety of this, and his expression is quite easy to read. Never admit defeat, he adds. The fight will be worth it. Ky blamed me, even before I left here, turned to Mama Rat. Blamed me for Broken Prairie's death. Still blames me. And while, there is a snort, I do not care in some ways, nor do I care what Thunder's children make of me, he is… family, a little. Related. Part of me still cares and I wonder, why.

Maddie snorts herself, though this time it's at Jeremiah, and it's clearly an expression of amusement. Because family matters, silly frog. The boy did not cast him from Thunder's service, that was a choice he made for himself, so he has no reason to hate the boy. And then, aloud, "Maddie would wonder more about him if he found it so easy to stop caring."

Jeremiah hates many of the rest of them, comes the argument in return. Hates that so many fall to corruption, hates lies, hates… and this time he fingerspells, carefully and slowly for a word that he doesn't know the sign for. Intrigue. Hate is too easy sometimes. Caring is hard.

Maddie points out, "No more of his old tribe fall to corruption than any other—less, usually, because they are very good at rooting it out early. He may as well hate the daughters of Pegasus because they would not accept him for being a man as hate his old tribe for being what they are." Transitioning back to sign, she adds: Which is not the same thing as expecting him to like them. He was bent into shapes that did not suit him, and that is not something easy to endure.

Except when they are not good, when they are bad, there is too much of it, and it eats a place from the inside out, comes the more hasty and bitter-tinged signs in response, sharper movements, though Jeremiah regains his calm quickly, nodding. Something about sign seems to be good for expressing displeasure, though. I hated intrigue so much I did not see them fall around me, he signs. The boy blames me… I still blame me, for being too late.

Maddie asks: Would that not be true of any sacred place that fell from within? The attempt to sign about the caern is a bit awkward, as she has to think of a good way to describe it that she actually has words for. As to the rest, it is easy to see what has already happened.

Jeremiah presses his lips together, and nods, following it with more signs. True. Still. Much of me does not expect the boy to say yes. And I think, Ky is very young for the responsibility he has. Very young even if there are few of Thunder's family left here right now.

Maddie bobs her head in at least partial agreement. But then, the same could be said of her, and she means to watch the spirit doors here, if the elders will have her. It is not something that she would have asked for or expected, but she does what needs to be done. She is younger than he is, as humans measure years. This last, added with the hint of a grin.

Jeremiah nods once more, pulling his knees to his chest to lean forward. I'm not that old, he protests, and there's a grin managed for the levity. For what it matters, she is at least wiser than he is. He has seen… there's a pause, thought. Over six years after he changed, now, but only nine months at this new chance. He shakes his head in a slow shrug. I have not thought too much about what I will do if I get to stay, he adds. I am a fighter, a full moon, but not a hero.

Maddie can't quite help laughing good-naturedly at that. "So either he is right, and is wise enough that he knows himself, or he is wrong, in which case Maddie would think him strange or perhaps a little foolish for declaring himself to be one anyway."

Jeremiah shrugs his shoulder and gets to his feet with a smile. Not a hero, he signs again. What that means if I want my voice back some day, I don't know. She heard what is required as well as he did. Come, Jeremiah continues, with a broad wave towards the further interior of the park, and a more subtle nod of thanks to his tribemate for talking him out of the funk that he'd gotten himself into. We will go to the other-side-place and talk more about talens?

Maddie begins aiming their walk in the general direction of the fountain, agreeing with him without saying—or signing—a word. Not being the oblivious one, she does add, "Maddie will keep watch while he crosses, and then she will join him."
